April Ross

April Ross has won more than one medal at the Olympics. She is among only a handful of female beach volleyball athletes to achieve this feat. Alix Kallineman is set to compete alongside April Ross in Tokyo to take home her third gold medal in the next couple of days. But more than that, Ross hopes to win her very first Olympic gold. This may be the last opportunity she gets to do so at the age of 39. Her confidence is high but she is not sure. Ross told NBC Boston that he believes if they play their most effective, and even play a great game, they will be able to win gold. That's why I'm taking a little bit of luck as well. Ross was born in 1982 in Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents and sister. She then went on to compete in a myriad of sports during her time at Newport Harbor High School. She was a basketball player and also ran track in addition to her indoor volleyball achievements in her time as a college athlete. But she clearly was a one of a kind in this latter game. Based on her bio, she was a middle blocker and outside hitter on the volleyball court during her time in high school. Her efforts were recognized by her being selected as 1999 Gatorade's Circle of Champions' National Players of the Year. In 2000, she received the Orange County Athlete of the Award for volleyball. Ross Klineman and Ross began their relationship in 2017 but Ross has been a prominent participant on the beach for quite a while before. In reality, she was the winner of multiple major tournaments with two different teams, one of which is famous for her volleyball skills. She partnered up with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and she also served as the Klineman's assistant and Kessy's coach. Kessy and Ross were an impressive force on the world circuit, winning a 2009 world title together. The pair eventually captured a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The legendary Misty Maytreanor team along with Kerri Jennings were the winners of gold. It was fate that had them. Ross was Walsh Jennings' new partner in the event that May-Treanor decided to retire. They took home the bronze medal in beach volleyball at Rio Olympics in 2016. Following high school, and for a few some time before hitting the beach as a professional Ross played with the Trojans of USC as an NCAA. Ross's Trojans experience was outstanding. While a freshman in the year 2000 she earned Pac-10 as well as NCAA freshman of the year accolades. She also earned an All-American. In 2000, her Trojans even made it to the Final Four. The Trojans suffered a heartbreaking personal loss in her sophomore year however she was able to return her place as an All-American. Through her final two years playing for the Trojans, she helped them to win two consecutive titles. She was a superb volleyball player. She won the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the college's top female volleyball player. Ross graduated with a degree in the field of international relations in USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, did not have the opportunity to see her daughter turn into an international beach volleyball star. When Ross was a sophomore at USC her mother passed away from cancer of the breast. She still holds her mother dear. And Margie remains a source of encouragement for her at the beach as well as in everyday life.
